The Town Meeting

Mount Vernon uses a "Town Meeting" form of government in which Officials and Board Members are elected by secret ballot and Committee Members are appointed by the Select board. At the annual Town Meeting budgetary items and changes are voted on by the residents of the town.

The people of Mount Vernon elect three Select board members who have the responsibility for the overall management of the town.  Select board members are elected for a (staggered) three year term without term limits. They choose their own chairperson.  Business is conducted during public Selectboard Meetings every other Monday at 6:30 p.m.
