The Town of Mt. Vernon belongs to the Maranacook Community School system. The higher grades attend the Maranacook Community Schools in nearby Readfield, which also includes the towns of Manchester, Readfield and Wayne.
Students K through 5 from Mt. Vernon attend their Elementary School located on North Road a few miles above the village.
Our town takes great pride in its elementary school. An all-volunteer Playground Committee supports and maintains the school's playground. The school's multi-purpose room is used for many functions such as town meetings and covered dish suppers.
